Lady Senators drop pair on the road

BOAZ, Ala. — Walters State dropped a pair of volleyball matches Saturday evening in a tri-match with two NJCAA Division I programs in Alabama.


The Lady Senators opened the day with a four-set loss against Lawson State, dropping the first two games 25-12 and 25-17 before extending the match with a 25-23 win in the third game. Lawson State ended the match with a 25-19 win in the fourth game.


Walters State couldn't pull off a set victory in the nightcap against host Snead State, as they dropped the match by the scores of 25-18, 25-16 and 25-17.


With the wins, Lawson State improved to 17-5 on the year and Snead State moved to 19-6. The losses dropped Walters State to 9-7 on the season and halted a four-match winning streak.


In the opener, Kaley Muncy led Walters State with seven kills and three blocks, while Micayla Vallie added seven kills and a team-high 18 digs. Courtney Dotson notched a double-double with 15 assists and a dozen digs, while Sydney Hurd added 10 digs in the loss.


Lawson State was led by Mekaila Hill with 13 kills and 13 digs, while Mikayla Koins had 11 kills and four blocks and Chasity Smith tallied nine kills in the win. Sarah Warren dished out 40 assists and notched 13 digs, while Erin Test had 16 digs, Aja Amison added 10 digs and Davonna Byrd added four blocks in the contest.


In the finale, WSCC was paced by Kaley Muncy with seven kills and Mckenzie Jenkins with four kills, while Dotson tallied 13 assists and nine digs and Lexi Wakefield had 12 digs in the defeat.


Megan Zuck and Je'Anna Thomas both recorded a dozen kills in the win for Snead State, while Gabrielle Bili (15) and Gracie Muncher (13) both dished out double-digit assists in the victory.


The Lady Senators will be back in action Tuesday with a road match at Covenant before taking part in a tri-match with Patrick Henry and Vance-Granville on Sept. 28. The next home match comes on Monday, Oct. 1, when WSCC hosts Covenant.
