No. 4 Walters State opens series with 19-2 win over Volunteer State

GALLATIN, TN – No. 4 Walters State scored double-digit runs for the seventh straight game on Thursday afternoon against Volunteer State, as the Senators picked up a 19-2 victory over the Pioneers.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 41-6-1 overall and 20-5 in TCCAA play.
Walters State has now scored 149 runs in their last seven games, averaging a little over 21 runs per game during the stretch.
Leading the way for the Senators at the plate was Jack Torbett with three hits and three RBIs. Tyler Myatt hit a grand slam and drove in five runs, and Holden Pantier homered and drove in three runs. Nate Conner walked three times and had two RBIs, as well.
On the mound, Walker Morgan (6-0) got the start and allowed just one run on five hits in five innings. Morgan struck out six, as well. Lorenzo Atwell replaced Morgan in the sixth and allowed one run on one hit while striking out two before Ryan Smith struck out two in a clean seventh inning.
The Senators scored three runs in the first inning, as Kole Fenton scored on a passed ball, Myatt grounded out to score Conner and Jack Vogele scored on a wild pitch. In the second, Walters State added three more runs on an error and a two-RBI single by Conner that made it 6-0.
Volunteer State got on the board with a run in the bottom of the second, but Walters State picked up two more runs in the third on a two-RBI double by Torbett that made it 8-1. In the fourth, Pantier made it 11-1 with a three-run homer over the fence in left.
The sixth inning saw Walters State's final eight runs cross the plate. A passed ball scored the first run of the inning, and Torbett singled home a run to make it 13-1. It was 14-1 after a sacrifice fly by Taylor Harris, and a walk to Vogele with the bases loaded scored Torbett to make it 15-1. The final four runs came as Myatt smashed a grand slam.
Vol State got a run in the sixth to make it 19-2, but that was all.
