YOUNG HARRIS, GA – No. 1 Walters State closed the regular season on Monday afternoon with a doubleheader sweep of Young Harris JV, winning 13-5 and 26-5.
With the sweep, the Senators closed the regular season at 49-6-1.
GAME ONE: No. 1 Walters State 13, Young Harris JV 5
In game one, the Senators had 14 hits on their way to the win.
Holden Pantier led the way for Walters State with a grand slam and four RBIs. Taylor Harris and Atticus Goodson each homered, as well, while Kole Fenton had three hits and two RBIs.
On the mound, Rowan Park (1-1) got the start and threw two innings. Park allowed one hit and struck out one. After Andrew Moore replaced Park and got an out while giving up two runs, Ryder Moye came in and threw 1.2 innings. Moye didn't allow a hit and struck out two. Dakota Crumbley was next in line and threw two innings, allowing no runs and striking out one. Ryan Smith threw the next two innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out three, and Matthew Porchas struck out one in the ninth.
Walters State struck for a run in the first inning on a Jack Vogele RBI single, and Taylor Harris made it 2-0 with an RBI double. It was 3-0 in the top of the third on a Walker Morgan sacrifice fly, but Young Harris scored two in the bottom half to cut the lead to one.
In the fourth, the Senators extended their lead to four as Goodson homered, Harris homered and Cabbage singled in Fenton to make it 6-2. Walters State blew the game open in the sixth on a Tyler Myatt RBI single and a Pantier grand slam that made it 11-2.
Young Harris rallied for three runs in the eighth, but Fenton singled in two in the ninth to make it 13-5.
GAME TWO: No. 1 Walters State 26, Young Harris JV 5
In game two, Jack Torbett went 6-for-7 and the Senators collected 31 hits as a team.
Along with Torbett, Goodson had two more home runs and four RBIs while Hayden Blair and Harris each homered and drove in three runs. Myatt homered in the game, as well.
On the mound, Brayden Blankenship (3-0) got the start and threw three innings. Blankenship gave up three runs on four hits and struck out five. Tyler Peterson pitched the next two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three before Lorenzo Atwell threw two innings and struck out three while allowing two runs. Mason Trucks threw the final two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three.
The Senators got on the board in the second inning on a Pantier sacrifice fly and Kenny Cox RBI single, and made it 3-0 in the third on a Vogele RBI double. Young Harris tied the game with three runs in the third, but Harris smashed a three-run homer in the fourth to give Walters State 6-3 lead. Two more runs scored in the fifth on an error that scored Fenton and a groundout that scored Myatt, and it was 11-3 after a Goodson homer, a Torbett RBI single and a Cabbage RBI double.
Young Harris got a run back in the bottom of the sixth, but the Senators scored 10 in the seventh to make it 21-4. Those runs came on a Goodson three-run homer, a Fenton two-RBI double, a Pantier RBI double, a Cox RBI single, a Blair two-run home run and a passed ball that scored Goodson.
Young Harris scored their final run in the seventh, but the Senators scored two in the eighth on a Myatt solo homer and Blair RBI double and two in the ninth on a Torbett RBI double and Pantier RBI triple that made it 25-5.
