No. 1 Walters State sweeps TCCAA Baseball Awards, nine named to All-TCCAA Teams
CHATTANOOGA, TN – It was a clean sweep for No. 1 Walters State Thursday afternoon, as the Senators won all three TCCAA Baseball Awards.
Walters State's Tyler Myatt was named the TCCAA Player of the Year, Aiden Robertson was named the TCCAA Pitcher of the Year and Dave Shelton was named the TCCAA Coach of the Year.
Additionally, Myatt, Robertson, Jack Vogele, Nate Conner and Gage Peterson were named All-TCCAA First Team and Walker Morgan, Holden Pantier, Kole Fenton and Carson Cabbage were named All-TCCAA Second Team.
Myatt was named Player of the Year after winning the conference's Triple Crown. For the season, Myatt hit .506 with 27 home runs and 99 RBIs. He won the batting title, was first in RBIs by 20 and first in home runs by 11. Myatt also leads the country in all three categories.
Myatt also has an on base percentage of .592 and a slugging percentage of 1.057. He scored 78 runs and stole nine bases. Myatt had six multi-home run games and drove in more than four runs in nine games.
Named the Pitcher of the Year, Robertson was the conference's pitching Triple Crown winner. In 14 starts, Robertson went 10-1 with a 3.09 ERA and 101 strikeouts. Robertson led the conference in wins, ERA and strikeouts and leads the country in strikeouts.
Robertson also threw three complete games, two shutouts and had a 14.20 K/9. Robertson struck out 10 or more batters in four games this season.
The Coach of the Year for the sixth time, Shelton earned the honor after leading the Senators to a 49-6-1 record, a TCCAA regular season title and a No. 1 ranking in the country. Shelton's team is first in the country in runs and first in home runs.
Named All-TCCAA First Team for the second straight season were Vogele and Conner in the outfield. Vogele finished the regular season hitting .429, with 15 home runs and 80 RBIs. Vogele ranked second in home runs and RBIs and third in batting average. Meanwhile, Conner hit .361, had a .500 on base percentage and drove in 43 runs.
Also making All-TCCAA First Team was Peterson. Starting 11 games this season for the Senators, Peterson went 8-2 with a 2.76 ERA and 65 strikeouts. Peterson was second in the conference in wins.
Making All-TCCAA Second Team at first base, Morgan hit .352 with three home runs and 28 RBIs. Morgan also started 12 games on the mound, going 6-0 with a 4.06 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
Pantier was named All-TCCAA Second Team for his performance at third base this season. For the regular season, Pantier hit .393 with 12 home runs and 59 RBIs. Pantier ranked fifth in on base percentage at .519 and fourth in slugging percentage at .712.
Rounding out All-TCCAA second team were Fenton at shortstop and Cabbage behind the plate. Fenton finished the regular season hitting .384 with five home runs and 44 RBIs. Fenton was second in the conference in hits with 73 and second in triples with four. Meanwhile, Cabbage hit .402 with nine home runs and 43 RBIs. Defensively, Cabbage threw out eight runners.
