No. 4 Walters State allows one hit in 20-2 win over USC Salkehatchie
ALLENDALE, SC – Brady Scott and Preston Allen were untouchable on the mound for No. 4 Walters State on Thursday afternoon, and the Senators picked up a 20-2 win over USC Salkehatchie in seven innings.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 3-0 on the season.
Scott (2-0) got the start on the mound for Walters State in the game and threw three innings. Scott didn't allow a hit and struck out five. Allen replaced Scott in the fourth inning and threw the next three innings, allowing no hits and striking out seven.
Dakota Crumbley started the seventh inning on the mound and picked up two outs while allowing two runs on one hit. Lorenzo Atwell replaced Crumbley and got the final out, a strikeout, to end the game.
At the plate, the Senators totaled 17 hits. Braeden Trajkovski led the way with three hits and three RBIs, while Kole Fenton and Drew Blalock each homered and drove in three runs. Holden Pantier had three hits, as well, and David Hamilton knocked in two runs.
Walters State got on the board in the first, as Kenny Cox walked with two outs, stole second and then scored on an error by the catcher. Scott struck out two in the bottom of the first, and his offense responded with five runs in the top of the second. Those runs came on a Trajkovski RBI double, a Brady Dalton RBI single, a wild pitch that scored Jackson Berry, a Fenton sacrifice fly that scored Dalton and a Cox RBI double that scored Pantier to make it 6-0.
Scott picked up another strikeout in the second and two more in the third, and the Senators scored four in the fourth. Dalton opened the inning with a single, and Pantier singled to put two on. Following a fielder's choice by Cox that scored Dalton, Justin Bell doubled in a run to make it 8-0. The lead grew to 10-0 when Trajkovski singled to score Bell and Blalock.
After Allen entered and struck out the side in the fourth, Walters State extended its lead to 16-0 with six more runs in the fifth. Pantier got the scoring going in the inning with an RBI single, and Hayden Blair followed with an RBI single. Blalock was the next batter, and he slugged a 3-run home run. The final run of the inning came on a bases-loaded walk to Luke Jenkins that scored Jaxon Walker.
Following two more runs in the sixth on a Hamilton two-RBI double, Fenton closed out the Senators' scoring in the seventh with a two-run home run. Salkehatchie scored two in the bottom of the seventh, but that was all.
