4th-ranked Senators complete sweep of Pellissippi State with 12-6 win
KNOXVILLE, TN – After dropping the opening series of TCCAA play last season to Pellissippi State, No. 4 Walters State was determined to not let that happen for a second straight season.
On Friday, the Senators completed the sweep over the Panthers with a 12-6 win.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in TCCAA play.
Holden Pantier again led the Senators at the plate in the game, with three hits and two RBIs. Justin Bell had three hits, as well, while Drew Blalock and Jaxon Walker each had two RBIs. Kenny Cox and Hayden Blair also picked up two hits each.
On the mound, Major Osbolt got the start and threw three innings. Osbolt struck out seven, while allowing three runs on two hits. Tim Tyler (4-0) replaced Osbolt in the fourth and threw the next three innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits while striking out five. Hayden Mills then got the first two outs of the seventh inning, allowing one run, before Bridger Hamilton came in and picked up the save. Hamilton threw 2.1 innings, allowed one hit and struck out four.
Walters State struck early in the contest, as Pantier singled and scored on a Blair RBI double in the first. However, Pellissippi scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning and took a 3-1 lead.
That was the score until the fourth, when the Senators loaded the bases thanks to singles by Cox, Bell and Brady Dalton. Walker got Walters State one run closer with a sacrifice fly that scored Cox, and Pantier singled home two runs with two outs to give Walters State a 4-3 lead. The Senators scored two more runs in the inning, both coming home on errors.
Pellissippi got one run back in the bottom of the fourth, but Walker singled home a run in the fifth and Fenton doubled in a run to make it 8-4. The Panthers scored one in the sixth, but the Senators scored two in the seventh as Blalock singled in Pantier and Fenton to make it 10-5.
After Pellissippi scored a run in the seventh, Walters State concluded the scoring with two runs in the ninth on a Cox RBI single and a Miles Shore hit by pitch with the bases loaded.
