Balanced effort leads No. 4 Walters State to 11-1 win over Surry Community College
DOBSON, NC – No. 4 Walters State collected 14 hits and allowed just one run on Tuesday afternoon, defeating Surry Community College, 11-1, in seven innings.
With the win, the Senators improved to 11-2 on the season.
At the plate, Holden Pantier continued his strong start to the season, going 3-4 with two doubles and three RBIs. Pantier is hitting .524 with 20 runs batted in so far this season.
Along with Pantier, Kole Fenton had three hits, and Hayden Blair, Luke Graham and Jaxon Walker each homered. Blair had three RBIs, as well.
On the mound, six pitchers saw action for the Senators. Hayden Mills (1-0) got the start and threw two innings, allowing one hit and striking out three. Justin Bell replaced Mills in the third and struck out the side, and Ryan Perkins struck out one in a scoreless fourth inning. Ryan Smith threw the fifth inning and struck out two, and David Hamilton struck out one in the sixth inning. Lorenzo Atwell pitched the seventh inning, allowing one run on three hits while striking out one.
Fenton got the Senators on the board first in the game, leading off with a walk, stealing second, moving to third on a wild pitch and scoring on an error. Following a scoreless second, Walters State broke things open with five runs in the third. Fenton started the rally with a double and scored on a Pantier double. Blair was next up, and he made it 4-0 with a two-run home run. After Drew Blalock singled following the Blair home run, Graham smacked a two-run bomb to make it 6-0.
Pantier was at it again in the fourth inning when he doubled home Fenton, who singled to lead off the inning, to make it 7-0. Two batters later, Blalock singled in Pantier, and it was 8-0.
Walters State closed out its scoring in the seventh with three runs. Walker got the party started, clubbing a two-run home run over the fence in right. The final run came when Pantier singled to score Luke Jenkins to make it 11-0. Surry got a run in the seventh, but that was all.

Walters State dips back into conference play on Thursday, traveling to take on Motlow State. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 pm ET.
