12th-ranked Senators split doubleheader with Roane State
MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 12 Walters State split a doubleheader with Roane State on Saturday, falling 16-7 to the Raiders before bouncing back with a 10-0 win in five innings.
With the split, the Senators moved to 20-6 overall and 11-4 in TCCAA play.
GAME ONE: Roane State 16, No. 12 Walters State 7
In game one, the Senators fell behind early and could not catch up in the loss.
At the plate, Miles Shore went 3-3 while Drew Blalock and Jaxon Walker each homered. Walker drove in three runs, and Blalock had two RBIs.
On the mound, Tim Tyler (6-2) got the start and threw 3.2 innings. Tyler allowed six runs on 10 hits and struck out four. Bridger Hamilton pitched the next three innings, allowing eight runs on six hits, and David Hamilton got the final out. Hamilton allowed two runs on a hit.
Roane State scored one in the second, one in the third and four in the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth, the Senators finally got on the board as Hayden Blair walked and Blalock followed with a two-run home run into the trees, his ninth of the season.
In the fifth, Walters State got another run closer as Kole Fenton walked, moved to third on a Holden Pantier single and scored on a sacrifice fly by Blair to make it 6-3. However, Roane State answered back with five runs in the sixth to go up 11-3.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Senators would not go away, scoring four more times to make it 11-7. Shore led off the inning with a walk, and Bell walked to put two on. Walker was the next batter, and he crushed a three-run home run. The final run in the inning came when Fenton scored on a wild pitch.
Unfortunately for Walters State, Roane State picked up five more runs in the seventh and took the win.
GAME TWO: No. 12 Walters State 10, Roane State 0 (5 Innings)
In game two, Major Osbolt threw a complete game shutout, and Walters State homered three times.
Osbolt (3-1) allowed just four hits in the five innings, and he struck out six.
At the plate, Kenny Cox, Shore and Justin Bell homered. Cox drove in three runs, while Shore had two RBIs. Pantier picked up two hits, as well.
Walters State scored in every inning in game two, starting things off with two runs in the bottom of the first. Following a walk to Fenton, a single from Pantier and a hit by pitch to Blair, Blalock got Walters State on the board with a sacrifice fly that drove in Fenton. Cox was next up, and he singled to score Pantier to make it 2-0.
In the second, the Senators added two more runs. Davis Peralta led off the inning with a double, and he scored on a wild pitch that made it 3-0. The other run in the inning scored as Fenton grounded out but scored Bell.
The third inning was more of the same for the Walters State offense, scoring three times to go up 7-0. Shore got the scoring started with a two-run home run, and Bell followed two batters later with a solo shot.
The final three runs came in the fourth inning, as Fenton scored on a wild pitch and Cox hammered a two-run home run that made it 10-0. Osbolt worked around two singles in the top of the fifth to end the game early.

Walters State is back in action on Wednesday, hosting Cleveland Community College. First pitch of the DH is set for 1 pm ET.
