No. 16 Walters State collects 21 hits in 16-6 win over No. 17 Wabash Valley
MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 16 Walters State scored in all but one inning on Saturday, completing the sweep over No. 17 Wabash Valley with a 16-6 win in eight innings.
With the victory, the Senators moved to 25-6 on the season.
The Warriors could not get Kenny Cox out on Saturday, as Cox went 5-5 with a home run, double and three RBIs. Along with Cox, Holden Pantier hit two home runs and drove in four runs, while Kole Fenton picked up three hits. Jackson Berry had four RBIs, as well, and Hayden Blair and Justin Bell homered.
On the mound, Hayden Mills (2-0) got the start and threw five innings. Mills allowed one run on three hits and struck out six. Lane Sharp pitched the final three innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out three.
Walters State got on the board in the bottom of the first, as Pantier walked and scored when Blair smacked a two-run home run. The lead increased to 4-0 in the second after solo home runs by Bell and Fenton, and Cox made it 5-1 in the fourth with a solo home run.
The Senators increased the lead to 6-1 in the bottom of the fifth as Jaxon Walker singled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Pantier. The sixth inning saw three more runs come across for the Senators, as Cox singled home Luke Graham, and Berry had a two-RBI single that scored Miles Shore and Cox to make it 9-1.
Wabash answered back with two runs in the top of the seventh, but Pantier smacked a solo home run, and Cox doubled in Blair in the bottom of the inning to make it 11-3. Wabash scored three more runs in the top of the eighth to make it 11-6, but Walters State ended it in the bottom of the inning with five runs. Those runs came on a Pantier two-run home run, a Shore RBI single and a Berry two-RBI single that made it 16-6.
