No. 15 Walters State wins non-conference game, 7-3, over Chattanooga State
CHATTANOOGA, TN – No. 15 Walters State had 12 hits and limited Chattanooga State to three runs on Tuesday, going on for a 7-3 win over the Tigers.
With the win, Walters State improved to 26-6 on the season. The Senators have won seven games in a row.
Kole Fenton led the way at the plate, recording three hits and driving in two runs. Holden Pantier had two hits and two RBIs, and Drew Blalock smacked a solo home run.
On the mound, Blalock got the start and threw two innings. Blalock allowed one run on three hits and struck out two. Colton Richards (3-0) replaced Blalock in the third and threw the next 2.2 innings. Richards didn't allow a run and struck out two. Sam Martell was next in line, and he threw two innings. Martell gave up two runs, one earned, on two hits and struck out four. Walters State closed things out with a clean 1.1 innings from Bridger Hamilton and a 1-2-3 ninth inning from Justin Bell.
Chattanooga State took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but Walters State tied the game in the third when Fenton doubled and scored on an RBI triple by Pantier. Walters State took the lead in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Blalock, his 10th of the year. The Senators added another run in the inning, as Brady Dalton singled in Miles Shore to make it 3-1.
In the sixth, the Senators put two on thanks to a Jackson Berry walk and Brady Dalton single. Fenton then stepped up with two outs and singled them both home to make it 5-1. The Tigers got a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-2, but Walters State got that run right back in the seventh when Shore reached on a fielder's choice that scored Hayden Blair.
Chattanooga State's final run came in the bottom of the seventh, while Walters State's came in the top of the eighth. Jaxon Walker got things started with a double, and he came around to score on a Pantier single to make it 7-3.
