Osbolt strikes out 11 in No. 15 Walters State’s 9-1 win over Dyersburg State
MORRISTOWN, TN – Major Osbolt struck out 11 of the 20 batters he faced on Thursday evening, and No. 15 Walters State picked up a 9-1 win over Dyersburg State.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 27-6 overall and 12-4 in TCCAA play. Walters State has won its last eight games.
Osbolt improved to 5-1 on the mound with the win. Osbolt threw five innings, allowing three hits and striking out 11. Tim Tyler picked up his first save of the season, throwing the final four innings. Tyler allowed one run on three hits and struck out eight.
At the plate, Luke Graham homered and drove in three runs, while Kole Fenton homered and had three hits. Holden Pantier and Hayden Blair smacked home runs, as well.
Osbolt struck out the side in the top of the first inning, and Fenton rewarded him with a solo shot to open up the bottom of the inning. Osbolt picked up two more strikeouts in the second, and Graham copied Fenton with a home run to lead off the bottom of the inning to make it 2-0.
Osbolt struck out one in the third, three in the fourth and two in the fifth to keep the score at 2-0, and Walters State pounced with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jaxon Walker led off the inning with a single, and Pantier drove him home with a two-run home run that made it 4-0.
In the seventh, the Senators increased their lead to 6-0 when Fenton doubled and Blair smoked a two-run home run. The eighth inning saw three more runs score for the Senators to make it 9-0. Miles Shore led off the inning with a double, and Jackson Berry reached on an error to put two on. That brought up Graham, and he scored both Shore and Berry with a double. The final run came across when Braeden Trajkovski singled to score Graham.
Dyersburg picked up a run in the top of the ninth, but that was all.
