No. 21 Walters State remains perfect on the road with 89-69 win over Motlow State

TULLAHOMA, TN – No. 21 Walters State got revenge for their lone loss of the season on Wednesday evening, taking care of Motlow State with an 89-69 victory.

With the win, Walters State improved to 21-1 overall and 12-1 in TCCAA play. The Senators are a perfect 9-0 in road games this season and have won 21 games for the first time since 2018-19. 

JR Jacobs led the way for Walters State with a season-high 18 points. Others in double figures were Ramondo Battle with 16 points and Greg Moore with 12 points. 

Other scorers for Walters State were Micah Simpson with eight, Jair Horton with eight, Jamar Livingston with seven, Charvez Ambrose with five, Malachi Hale with five, Jaylen Wharton with four, Chi Shannon with two, Carter Metz with two and Jaylon Taylor with two. All 12 Senators that saw the court scored. 

The Senators started slow in the game and trailed for much of the first half. Walters State finally took a lead at 30-29 and then closed the half out strong as Livingston scored right before the half to give the Senators a 40-38 lead at the break. 

Battle had 11 in the half, while Livingston scored all seven of his points in the first 20 minutes. 

In the second half, the Senators got their lead to double digits midway through the half and extended it from there. Jacobs capped the game off with a high-arching three at the shot clock buzzer with under a minute to go. 

Jacobs hit four 3-pointers in the second half and had 14 points, while Moore had nine and Battle and Hale had five each. Defensively, Walters State held Motlow to just 31 points in the final 20 minutes. 

As a team, Walters State were 18-23 from the charity stripe in the second half.
