Senators, Lady Senators picked to finish first in TCCAA Preseason Basketball Coaches Poll
MORRISTOWN, TN -- Both the Walters State men's and women's basketball teams were picked to finish first in the TCCAA Preseason Basketball Coaches Polls on Monday.
It's the second straight season that both teams have been selected to finish first in the preseason poll.
On the men's side, the Senators received 116 points and seven of the 11 first-place votes. Columbia State was picked to finish second with 108 points and three first-place votes, and Chattanooga State was selected to finish third with 85 points.
In fourth, Roane State received 81 points while Volunteer State was in fifth with 75 points. Southwest Tennessee received the final first-place vote and was in sixth with 70 points.
Rounding out the Coaches Poll were Pellissippi State in seventh with 54 points, Motlow State in eighth with 47 points, Cleveland State in ninth with 39 points, Jackson State in 10th with 26 points and Dyersburg State in 11th with 25 points.
On the women's side, the Lady Senators received eight first-place votes and had 108 points. In second, Chattanooga State had a first-place vote and received 94 points, and Jackson State received the final first-place vote and had 75 points.
Fourth in the Coaches Poll was Columbia State with 68 points, while fifth was Dyersburg State with 65 points. Rounding out the top six was Southwest Tennessee with 63 points.
Closing out the Coaches Poll were Pellissippi State in seventh with 60 points, Roane State in eighth with 48 points, Cleveland State in ninth with 36 points, Volunteer State in 10th with 30 points and Motlow State in 11th with 13 points.
The season is set to begin for the Walters State men's basketball team on Friday, Oct. 31, on the road against Union College JV. The Lady Senators will open their season at home on Saturday, Nov. 1, against Shelton State at 6:30 pm ET.
