No. 23 Walters State opens season with 136-39 win over Union JV
BARBOURVILLE, KY – No. 23 Walters State got off to a blistering start to the season on Friday evening against Union University JV, picking up a 136-39 win.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 1-0 on the season.
All 13 players scored for Walters State in the game. Taquez Butler led the charge with 18 points and six assists, while Jayden Nesbitt finished with 16 points and eight rebounds. Others in double figures were Brian Carter with 15 points, six assists and seven rebounds, Jamar Livingston with 14 points, Tyrese Stovall with 14 points and six rebounds, Carter Webb with 12 points and five assists and Trae Rideau with 10 points and six assists.
Other contributors for the Senators were Da'Mori Lytch with eight points and four rebounds, Jaceion Coffey with eight points, Mou Riiny with eight points and five rebounds, Malaki Brooks with seven points, Jaquavious Wallace with four points and Caiden Bauldwin with two points, four assists and six rebounds.
As a team, Walters State shot 57-86 from the field and 12-22 from 3-point range. The Senators assisted on 33 made baskets and collected 46 rebounds. The Senators scored 69 points in the opening 20 minutes and held Union JV to 18. In the second half, Walters State scored 67 more points to Union JV's 21.
