Lytch, Stovall and Nichols earn TCCAA Men’s Basketball Awards
GALLATIN, TN – Da'Mori Lytch was named the TCCAA Men's Basketball Player of the Year on Saturday, while Tyrese Stovall was the TCCAA Co-Freshman of the Year and Jerry Nichols was the TCCAA Coach of the Year.
Additionally, Lytch, Taquez Butler and Jamar Livingston were named to the All-TCCAA First Team, and Brian Carter was named a member of the All-TCCAA Second Team.
Lytch was as consistent as they come for the Senators during the season. Lytch shot 69.8% from the field, averaged 13 points per game and 6.6 rebounds per game. Lytch scored double-digits in 19 games on the season. His best game came against Roane State on November 12 when he finished with 24 points and eight rebounds. Lytch had 18 and nine against Volunteer State on November 22 and Chattanooga State on December 3.
Stovall shared TCCAA Freshman of the Year honors. Stovall averaged 10.4 points and six rebounds per game for Walters State, shooting 69% from the field. Stovall's best game came against Volunteer State on November 22, finishing with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
For the second time in three years, Nichols was named the TCCAA Coach of the Year. Nichols helped guide Walters State to a 27-1 record and a 19-1 record in TCCAA play. The Senators were named the TCCAA Regular Season Champions and went a perfect 15-0 at home. Walters State is currently ranked No. 13 in the country.
Butler earned All-TCCAA First Team honors after averaging 11.7 points and dishing out five assists per game. Butler shot 48% from the field and led the conference with 140 assists. Butler's assist-to-turnover ratio was 4.0, and he made 58 3-pointers.
Also making All-TCCAA First Team was Livingston. Livingston was fourth in the conference in points per game at 13.4. Livingston made 66 3-pointers and shot 82% from the charity stripe. On the defensive end, Livingston had 47 steals.
Named to the second team, Carter leads the country in field goal percentage at 78.8%. Carter averaged 12.3 points and 5.1 rebounds per game, and he shot 75% from the free-throw line. Carter scored double digits points in eight of the Senators last 10 games of the regular season.
