Lytch and Butler named NJCAA DI Men’s Basketball All-Americans
MORRISTOWN, TN – For the first time in program history, the Walters State men's basketball team has two All-Americans in the same season.
On Wednesday, Da'Mori Lytch and Taquez Butler were named to the NJCAA DI Men's Basketball All-American teams. Lytch was named a First Team All-American, while Butler was named an Honorable Mention All-American.
Butler and Lytch are the 10th and 11th All-Americans in program history and the first since Michael Houge during the 2022-23 season. Lytch is the first Senator named to the first team since Miles Thomas during the 2018-19 season.
The TCCAA Player of the Year, Lytch finished the season averaging 12.3 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Lytch shot 66% from the field and had 30 blocks. Lytch scored double-digits in 22 games and had three double-doubles.
For his career, Lytch scored 763 points and collected 449 rebounds. Lytch averaged 12.3 points per game over 62 games and 7.2 rebounds.
Along with the All-American honors, Lytch was named the TCCAA Player of the Year and to the All-TCCAA First Team.
Along with Lytch, Butler was selected as an Honorable Mention after a phenomenal freshman season. Butler averaged 12.6 points per game and dished out 4.5 assists. Butler shot 49% from the field and 42% from 3-point range. He also averaged four rebounds per game and had 62 steals.
For the season, Butler finished with double-digit points in 23 games, including the final six games. Along with the All-American honors, Butler was named to the All-TCCAA First Team, was the TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament MVP and was named to the NJCAA DI Men's Basketball All-Tournament team. In three games in the NJCAA Tournament, Butler had 53 points, 17 rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals.
Butler and Lytch helped lead Walters State to a 32-2 record, a 19-1 record in TCCAA play, a TCCAA Regular Season Championship, a TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament Championship and an appearance in the NJCAA DI Men's Basketball Elite Eight.
