Senators coast to Alice Lloyd Last Shot win, Brantley takes home individual title
DANVILLE, KY – Coming into Sunday's final round of the Alice Lloyd Last Shot, Walters State carried a five-shot lead and were looking to close strong and take home their third tournament win of the spring.
If there was any doubt on whether they would achieve that goal, it was put to rest almost immediately.
Led by an incredibly strong performance by Bowen Brantley, the Senators shot 9-under on the day and went on for a 22-shot win. Walters State finished the tournament at 9-under, with Truett McConnell in second place at 13-over.
Along with the team title, Brantley took home the individual title as he finished the tournament at 5-under. Brantley shot 4-under in Sunday's final round, with birdies on the second, fourth, sixth, eighth and 17th holes and an eagle on the 501-yard par-5 18th.
It's Brantley's second tournament win of the 2024-25 season, as he won the East Tennessee Collegiate in the fall.
Brantley beat out teammate Alex Gaetz for the title, with Gaetz finishing in second place at 3-under. Gaetz shot 3-under on Sunday, birdieing the fourth hole on the front nine before totaling four birdies on the back nine on holes 11, 12, 16 and 17.
Finishing in a tie for fifth was Blake Woody at even-par. Woody shot 1-under in his final round, with a birdie on the sixth hole on the front nine and birdies on the 11th, 17th and 18th holes on the back nine.
Rounding out the team were Sloan Brooks in a tie for 10th at 3-over and Nick Talley in a tie for 22nd at 6-over. Brooks shot 1-under on Sunday and had birdies on the sixth, 10th and 18th holes while Talley shot 6-over and birdied the 17th hole.
As a team, the Senators shot 6-under on the back nine and 4-under on the 18th hole alone.
Playing as an individual, Jonas Rayfield finished in a tie for 33rd at 11-over. Rayfield shot 4-over in his final round and birdied the fourth and sixth holes.
