Senators in sixth place after opening day of Atomic City Classic
OAK RIDGE, TN – Walters State is in sixth place at 13-over after the opening round of the Atomic City Classic on Monday at Oak Ridge Country Club.
Leading the way for the Senators was Maddox Butler in sixth place at even-par. Butler struggled on the front nine and was two-over, but he bounced back and shot two-under on the back nine to finish at even. Butler had birdies on holes seven, nine, 13 and 14 and didn't make a bogey on the final nine holes.
Next for Walters State were Blake Dawson and Greyson Smith, both in a tie for 29th place at four-over. Dawson had birdies on the seventh and 16th holes, while Smith's lone birdie of the round came on the fifth hole.
Rounding out the team for Walters State were Alex Gaetz in a tie for 36th place at five-over and Brant Kardatzke in 46th place at seven-over. Gaetz birdied the 11th hole in his round while Kardatzke birdied the 15th hole.
The Senators have two individuals in the tournament, as well. Austin Williams sits in a tie for 29th at four-over, and Ayden Smith is in a tie for 36th at five-over. Williams had four birdies in his round, on the fifth, seventh, 14th and 15th holes.
