Senators finish Runner Up in loaded field at Ron Marshall Spring Fling
SCOTTSBORO, AL – Walters State beat six teams in the Clippd NJCAA DII Top 20 on Tuesday, finishing Runner Up in the Ron Marshall Spring Fling at Goose Pond Colony Resort.
As a team, the Senators shot 10-over in round three, finishing at 11-over for the tournament. Walters State, who is ranked No. 19 in the Clippd rankings, finished ahead of No. 10 Jefferson State CC, No. 11 Highlands CC, No. 12 Roane State, No. 14 Black Hawk, No. 16 Calhoun CC and No. 18 Snead State. No. 8 Illinois Central won the tournament by three shots.
Maddox Butler led the way for Walters State, finishing in a tie for fourth place at even-par. Butler shot two-over in Tuesday's round, with birdies on the seventh and 15th holes.
Along with Butler, Blake Dawson finished in a tie for 13th place at three-over. Dawson shot four-over in his final round, birdieing the sixth, seventh, 10th and 15th holes.
Greyson Smith was next up for the Senators, coming in a tie for 17th place at four-over. Smith shot three-over on Tuesday and birdied the first hole.
Rounding out the team were Alex Gaetz in a tie for 41st at 10-over and Ayden Smith in a tie for 49th at 14-over. On Tuesday, Gaetz shot five-over and birdied the 10th and 15th holes, while Smith shot one-over and had birdies on the seventh, 10th and 15th holes.
Playing as an individual, Austin Williams finished in a tie for 46th at 12-over. Williams was two-over on the day, shooting even on the front nine with a birdie on hole nine. He also birdied the 15th hole in his final round.
