Senators battle winter weather to finish third at Pellissippi State Invitational
KNOXVILLE, TN – Walters State battled winter weather on Monday and Tuesday in the Pellissippi State Invitational at Willow Creek Golf Club.
Due to the weather, the tournament was shortened to a 27-hole event. As a team, the Senators finished in third-place at 23-over.
Leading the way was Maddox Butler, finishing at three-over. Butler battled the cold, rain, ice and snow during his first 18 holes but still managed to shoot a two-over, 74. Butler had six birdies in the round, on holes one, four, five, eight, 12 and 15. Butler shot one-over on the final nine holes.
Blake Dawson was next for the Senators. Dawson finished at six-over for the 27 holes. In his first round, Dawson shot four-over and had birdies on the first, fourth and ninth holes. In his final nine holes, Dawson shot two-over.
Along with Butler and Dawson, Greyson Smith and Alex Gaetz finished at seven-over. Smith shot a five-over in his first round, with a birdie on the ninth hole, and was two-over on the final nine holes of the tournament. Meanwhile, Gaetz had birdies on holes four, five and nine on his way to a five-over in round one and followed it up with a two-over on the final nine holes.
Rounding out the team was Ayden Smith at 10-over. Smith shot six-over and birdied the fourth and 18th holes in his opening round. He followed it up with a four-over in his final nine holes.
Playing as individuals, Brant Kardatzke finished the tournament at nine-over, while Austin Williams shot 11-over. Kardatzke was seven-over for his first 18 holes and followed it up with a two-over on his final nine holes. Meanwhile, Williams shot seven-over in his opening round, with birdies on holes eight and 18. Williams shot four-over on the final nine holes.
