Senators finish second in Region 7 Championship
OOLTEWAH, TN – Walters State finished in second place in the Region 7 Championship on Monday at the Ooltewah Club.
As a team, the Senators shot 29-over in the two rounds. Walters State shot 19-over in round one and 10-over in round two.
Leading the way for Walters State on Monday was Blake Dawson, finishing in third place at three-over. Dawson shot even-par in round one, with birdies on the third, seventh, 11th and 13th holes. Dawson shot one-under on the back-nine. In round two, Dawson shot three-over and birdied the third, 10th and 13th holes.
Along with Dawson, Maddox Butler finished in seventh-place at five-over. Butler birdied the seventh, 14th and 17th holes in his opening round and shot six-over. Butler bounced back in round two, shooting one-under. Butler had just two bogeys in the round and birdied the third, seventh and 14th holes.
In third for Walters State was Ayden Smith in ninth place at eight-over. Smith shot three-over throughout his first 18 holes, with birdies on holes nine and 16. Smith shot five-over in his second round and birdied the 14th hole.
Rounding out the team for the Senators on Monday were Greyson Smith in 14th place at 13-over and Alex Gaetz in 27th place at 23-over. Smith shot 10-over in his opening round but was able to do seven shots better in round two. Smith birdied the third, fifth, 13th, 16th and 17th holes in round two on his way to shooting three-over. Meanwhile, Gaetz birdied holes six, 10 and 14 in round one and holes 10 and 14 in round two.
Playing as an individual, Brant Kardatzke finished in 25th place at 21-over. Kardatzke's lone birdie of the day came in the second round on the third hole.
Maddox Butler and Greyson Smith named to All-TCCAA Team
Maddox Butler and Greyson Smith were two of five golfers named to the All-TCCAA team on Monday.
The team consisted of the top-five ranked golfers in the conference throughout the fall and spring seasons, according to Clippd.
On the All-TCCAA Team, Butler finished the regular season as the No. 19 ranked golfer in NJCAA DII. Butler had five Top 3s and one win, in the East Tennessee Collegiate.
Meanwhile, Smith averaged a score of 74.6 per round and had a top-3 finish and a win at the Bill Gardner Fall Classic.

Walters State will take part in the NJCAA DII Southeast District Tournament at The Country Club in Morristown next Monday and Tuesday. The top two teams and one individual advance to the NJCAA DII Tournament.
