Senators win 2025 Walters State Opener
MORRISTOWN, TN – The Walters State cross country team opened the season on Friday evening at home in the Walters State Opener, with the Senators taking home the title.
The Walters State men's team edged out Pellissippi State with a score of 26 points. The Lady Senators also had three runners race.
For the men, Gage Slagle won the event in his Walters State debut, finishing with a time of 18:21. Gage's brother, Gavin Slagle, was right behind him in second place with a time of 18:45.
Next for the Senators was Evan Miller in fourth place with a time of 19:21. Sam Runyan finished next for Walters State in seventh place with a time of 20:15, and Edgar Martinez finished in 12th place with a time of 21:37. Rounding out the team were David Baker in 13th place with a time of 21:38, Walter Kledzik in 16th place with a time of 26:56 and Parker Minor in 17th with a time of 29:01.
For the women, Aislynn Hurley finished in second place with a time of 25:21 while Allie Swann finished in fourth place with a time of 27:09. Ava Curry also finished in seventh place with a time of 30:17.

Walters State will be back in action next Friday in Spartanburg, SC for the Eye Opener. The Lady Senators will race at 6 pm ET, with the men to follow at 6:30 pm ET.
