Slagle’s earn Top 40 finish at NJCAA DII Cross Country Championship
FORT DODGE, IA – The No. 23 Walters State men's cross country team finished in 22nd place at the NJCAA DII Cross Country Championships on Saturday afternoon, and the Lady Senators finished in 41st place.
The men's team ran an 8k, while the women's race was a 5k. Both teams battled cold and snowy conditions all race.
As has been the case this season, Gage and Gavin Slagle led the way for Walters State. Gage Slagle was the first brother to finish, coming in 21st place with a time of 27:31. Gage's 21st place finish was the best finish in Walters State program history.
Not far behind Gage was his brother, Gavin, in 31st place with a time of 27:44. Next for Walters State was Evan Miller in 169th place with a time of 30:24, and Edgar Martinez came in 208th place with a time of 31:13. Rounding out the team for Walters State were David Baker in 270th place with a time of 32:34, Sam Runyan in 309th place with a time of 34:42 and Parker Minor in 330th place with a time of 38:19.
On the women's side, Katie Calkins finished in 89th place with a time of 21:57. Next up for the Lady Senators was Aislynn Hurley in 141st place with a time of 22:50, and Allie Swann came in 307th with a time of 27:48. Rounding out the team were Chloe Williford in 312th with a time of 29:01, Carmen Sedighi in 317th with a time of 30:57 and Ava Curry in 318th with a time of 33:12.
The men's race had 343 runners compete, while the women's race totaled 321 runners.

Walters State will close out its season on Tuesday in Fort Dodge, IA at the NJCAA Half Marathon Championships. The women will race at 10 am CT, while the men will begin at 10:15 am CT.
