RAINSVILLE, AL – Walters State fell twice on Saturday to undefeated Northeast Alabama, 2-0 and 8-2.
With the losses, the Lady Senators fell to 6-10 on the season.
GAME ONE: Northeast Alabama 2, Walters State 0
In game one, Allie Jones had another strong outing in the circle, but the Lady Senators couldn't get the offense going.
Jones threw all six innings, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits.
At the plate, Nyah Mullins, Alayna Ross and Brenna Hunley had the only hits for Walters State.
Northeast Alabama scored one in the second and one in the fifth for the only runs in the game. The Lady Senators best chance in the game came in the seventh, when Ross led off with a double. But a pop out, strikeout and groundout ended the game.
GAME TWO: Northeast Alabama 8, Walters State 2
In game two, the Lady Senators strung together two runs in the third but that was all.
Mullins had two hits and an RBI in the game for Walters State, and Addison Beech tripled. Lauren Ruehl drove in the Lady Senators' other run.
In the circle, Ross got the start and threw four innings. Ross allowed six runs on nine hits. Summer Smith pitched the final two innings and gave up two runs on five hits.
Northeast Alabama scored a run in the first to pick up an early lead, but the Lady Senators answered with two runs in the third. Beech led things off with a triple, and Hunley legged out a bunt to put two on. That brought up Mullins, and she singled to right to score Beech and tie the game. Following two outs, Ruehl stepped up and singled to left to score Hunley and give the Lady Senators a 2-1 lead.
Unfortunately, Northeast Alabama scored three in the bottom of the third and four in the bottom of the fifth to take the win.
