Lady Senators’ season ends in TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament
COLUMBIA, TN – Walters State's softball season came to an end on Monday afternoon, as the Lady Senators fell 10-5 to Roane State in the TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament.
With the loss, the Lady Senators closed the season with a record of 29-22.
Brenna Hunley led the way for Walters State at the plate, going 3-4 with two RBIs. Nyah Mullins and Allie Seritt drove in a run each, and Addison Beech had a hit, walked, stole two bases and scored two runs. Beech finished her Walters State career with a .459 batting average, 136 hits, 108 runs and 53 stolen bases in 90 games.
In the circle, Allie Jones got the start and recorded an out. She gave up five runs on two hits. Summer Smith replaced Jones and threw the final 6.2 innings, allowing five runs, three earned, on 10 hits.
Roane State scored five runs in the opening inning, but Walters State got three of those runs back in the bottom of the first. Beech and Kacey Pillion led off with a walk, and the bases were loaded when Brianice Silguero was walked. That brought up Hunley, and she singled in Beech to make it 5-1. Mullins then flew out but scored Pillion, and Seritt followed with a single that scored Silguero to cut the Roane State lead to 5-3.
However, Roane State scored three in the second and one in the third to get its lead to 9-3. In the fourth, Walters State again loaded the bases as Beech singled and Pillion and Silguero walked. Hunley was next up, and she singled to left. Her hit scored Beech, and an error on the play drove in Pillion to make it 9-5.
Unfortunately, that was as close as Walters State would get. Roane State got one more run in the fifth and picked up the win.
