Lady Senators to host Kragel Classic this weekend

MORRISTOWN, TN – The Walters State women's basketball team opens its season this weekend, hosting the Kragel Classic.
Four teams will participate in the Classic on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's games will begin at 4:30 pm ET, with Roane State taking on Northeast Mississippi Community College. Then, at 6:30 pm ET, No. 18 Walters State will host No. 2 Shelton State.
On Sunday, No. 2 Shelton State and Roane State will play at 2 pm ET, with No. 18 Walters State and Northeast Mississippi to follow at 4 pm ET.
The Lady Senators enter the season following their 20th NJCAA Tournament appearance in program history. Walters State is led by Terryauna Griffin, who averaged 16.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per game last season and was named an NJCAA All-American. Other returners for Walters State include Nyjah Gibbs, Raegan Starks and Anaya Mulholland-Natt.
Shelton State visits Walters State following an appearance in last year's NJCAA Tournament Championship Game. Shelton State is the preseason No. 2 team in the country and brings back Janiyah Bone and Alana Obianozie. Obianozie and Bone started all 36 games last season, and Obianozie averaged 13.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
Northeast Mississippi comes to Morristown led by first-year head coach Brian Middleton. The Lady Tigers are coming off their winningest two-year period in 18 seasons, totalling 37 victories and a top four finish in the Mississippi Association of Community Colleges Conference.
Roane State is playing in the Kragel Classic following a 13-13 season last year and a semifinal appearance in the TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament. The Lady Raiders are led by second-year head coach Roger Parker.
