Balanced effort leads No. 7 Walters State to 107-46 win over Volunteer State
MORRISTOWN, TN – Four scored 20 or more points for the No. 7 Walters State women's basketball team on Saturday, and the Lady Senators picked up a 107-46 win over Volunteer State.
With the win, the Lady Senators improved to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in TCCAA play.
The sophomore trio of Terryauna Griffin, Nyjah Gibbs and Raegan Starks combined for 63 points in the game as Gibbs had 22, Griffin 21 and Starks 20. Paradise Fisher added 21 points, as well, with 15 coming in the second half.
Other contributors for the Lady Senators were Malon Smith with nine points, Anaya Mulholland-Natt with five points, Malia Wilcox with five points and Mariana Calero Zuniga with four points.
Gibbs started strong in the game with six points in the first four minutes, and Walters State led 10-0. The lead was 14-4 following four straight from Fisher, and Griffin drained a three to make it 17-4. The run continued as Smith scored, Gibbs scored and Starks scored to make it 23-4. Volunteer State scored one more point in the quarter, but Gibbs scored with 25 seconds left to make it 25-5 after one.
In the second, Griffin scored the first eight points of the quarter to make it a 33-5 game. Griffin scored three more a few minutes later that made it 38-13, and Starks hit a three with 5:32 left in the half that made it 43-15. Griffin scored five more points in the quarter, and Smith converted an and-one with three seconds left to make it 55-23 at the break.
The lead was 59-25 early in the third, and Walters State extended the lead to 68-25 on a 9-0 run. During the run, Mulholland-Natt, Wilcox, Griffin and Gibbs all scored. Fisher added four points soon after, and Starks hit back-to-back 3-pointers that helped bring the lead to 81-36 after three quarters.
In the fourth, Fisher took things over with 11 points while Calero Zuniga had four points and Wilcox poured in a 3-pointer. The Lady Senators scored 26 points in the final 10 minutes and grabbed a 107-46 win.

Walters State will be back in action after Thanksgiving, taking part in the South Georgia Tech Classic. The Lady Senators will play Central Georgia Tech on Friday at 6 pm ET and Albany Tech on Saturday at 3 pm ET.
