Terryauna Griffin becomes Walters State Women’s Basketball All-Time Leading Scorer in 65-56 win over Pellissippi State
KNOXVILLE, TN – It's only fitting that Terryauna Griffin returned to her hometown on Wednesday and etched her name at the top of the Walters State record books.
Griffin, a native of Knoxville, entered Wednesday's game against Pellissippi State just nine points away from becoming Walters State Women's Basketball All-Time Leading Scorer. After scoring seven points in the first quarter, Griffin broke free early in the second quarter and laid a ball in for the record.
Griffin scored 16 points in the game, putting her point total at 1,015, and the Lady Senators went on for a 65-56 victory over the Lady Panthers.
Griffin has had a remarkable two years for Walters State, scoring double digits in 45 of 54 games, 20+ points in 21 games and 30+ points in 10 games. Griffin scored 525 points last season, and through 23 games, has 490 points this season. Griffin averaged 17 points per game last season and is currently averaging 21 points per game this year.
Through Griffin's two years at Walters State, the Lady Senators are 46-8 overall, 36-1 in TCCAA play, won the 2024-25 TCCAA Regular Season and Tournament Championship, made the NJCAA DI Women's Basketball Tournament in 2025 and are currently ranked No. 6 in the country.
The scoring record was previously held by Joanie Mungro with 1007 points. After her two years at Walters State, Mungro played at Clemson. Mungro and Griffin are the only two players in Walters State women's basketball history to eclipse the 1,000 career point mark.
Along with Griffin on Wednesday, Nyjah Gibbs finished with 17 points while Raegan Starks also added 16 points. Other scorers were Anaya Mulholland-Natt with seven points, Tierra Coleman with five points, Malia Wilcox with three points and Malon Smith with one point.

However, Walters State scored just three more points in the quarter, all coming from Starks, and the lead was down to 47-42 going to the fourth.
The fourth quarter was close early on, Pellissippi cutting it to one, but Starks made a free throw and a shot in the lane to get the lead back to four. Walters State continued to charge, Gibbs making a basket to make it 55-48 and then converting a 3-point play that made it a 10-point game again.
