Walters State set to host TCCAA/Region 7 Volleyball Tournament
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State is set to host the TCCAA/Region 7 Volleyball Tournament, beginning on Thursday.
The Lady Senators are the No. 4 seed in the tournament and open things up on Thursday at 1 pm ET against No. 5 Jackson State. No. 2 Chattanooga State and No. 7 Dyersburg State will follow 30 minutes after that match, and No. 3 Pellissippi State and No. 6 Roane State will play 30 minutes after that match.
On Friday, No. 1 Cleveland State will take on the winner of Walters State and Jackson State at 1 pm ET. Following them, the winners of the second and third matches on Thursday will go head-to-head.
Saturday's Championship match is set for 1 pm ET.
Walters State enters the tournament with a 6-6 record in TCCAA play. The Lady Senators have won four of their last six conference matches and are led by Veda Barton. Barton finished the regular season with 323 kills and 91 blocks. Walters State has won the last three TCCAA/Region 7 Tournaments and seven since 2017.
Cleveland State is the No. 1 seed and went a perfect 12-0 in conference play. The Cougars are coached by Associate Coach Nolan McDaniel, who is helping assist head coach and Morristown Native Peyton McDaniel. Peyton McDaniel is currently in Iraq, serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
Chattanooga State is the No. 2 seed and enters with a 9-3 record in TCCAA play. Ava Higgins is the star for the Tigers, totaling 327 kills and averaging 3.80 kills per set.
The No. 3 seed is Pellissippi State, and they finished the regular season with a 7-5 TCCAA record. Grayson Jones finished the regular season for the Panthers with 412 digs and 42 service aces.
In their first season with a volleyball program, Jackson State is the No. 5 seed after going 6-6 in TCCAA play. Jackson State won 21 matches on the season and is led by Teagan Reed, who finished the season with 259 kills and 43 service aces.
Roane State will be the No. 6 in the tournament, going 2-10 in TCCAA play. Jaylynn Bullock leads the conference with 423 digs and was second with 565 receptions.
Also in their first year with a volleyball program, Dyersburg State is the No. 7 seed. The Eagles are led by Christiana Carter, who had 138 kills and 207 digs this season.
The two teams in Saturday's Championship will automatically advance to the Southeast District Tournament. The winner of the TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament will host the Southeast District Tournament next Friday, November 7.
