18th-ranked Senators finish fifth at Warhawk Invitational
OAKVILLE, AL – It was another record-breaking race for Walters State's Gage and Gavin Slagle on Thursday at the Warhawk Invitational, and the twins led the 18th-ranked Senators to a fifth place finish out of 19 teams.
Running an 8k, both Gage and Gavin broke the school record for that distance. Gavin Slagle led the charge with a third place finish and time of 26:03, and Gage Slagle was close behind with a fourth place finish and time of 26:05. It was Gavin's fastest 8k time of the season by 56 seconds and Gage's fastest 8k time by 22 seconds.
Along with the Slagle's, Evan Miller had another strong race as he finished in 39th place with a time of 28:43. Edgar Martinez was next for Walters State, finishing in 68th place with a time of 30:02, and David Baker came in 74th place with a time of 30:17.
Rounding out Walters State were Sam Runyan in 104th with a time of 32:18 and Parker Minor in 134th with a time of 37:05.
Four Lady Senators also competed on Thursday at the Warhawk Invitational. Leading the way in the 5k race was Katie Calkins in 21st place with a time of 20:44. Aislynn Hurley was next for the Lady Senators, coming in 43rd with a time of 22:02. Rounding out the team were Allie Swann in 71st place with a time of 23:45 and Chloe Williford in 90th place with a time of 25:11.
The men's race featured 156 runners, and the women's race had 128 runners.

Walters State starts its postseason on October 24th at the Region VII Championships in Knoxville, TN. The women will run at 9:30 am ET, with the men to follow at 10 am ET.
