No. 17 Walters State picks up 91-65 win over Dyersburg State
DYERSBURG, TN – Shorthanded No. 17 Walters State played great defense on its way to a 91-65 win over Dyersburg State on Saturday.
With the win, the Senators improved to 11-0 overall and 6-0 in TCCAA play.
Taquez Butler led the way for Walters State in the game with 20 points, while Jamar Livingston and Carter Webb each added 15. Other scorers for the Senators were Jaquavious Wallace with 14, Malaki Brooks with nine, Da'Mori Lytch with eight, Jayden Nesbitt with four, Tyrese Stovall with four and Jaceion Coffey with two.
In the opening 20 minutes, Butler took control with 13 points as the Senators held a 44-38 lead. Webb hit two 3-pointers and added eight points in the half, while Livingston had seven points. Other scorers were Brooks with five points and Nesbitt and Wallace with four points each.
In the second half, the Walters State defense took over and controlled the game on its way to the win. Wallace led the way with 10 points in the final 20 minutes, while Lytch scored all eight of his points in the second half. Butler had seven more points in the second half, and Livingston had eight. Webb added seven points, as well.
