No. 14 Walters State dunks its way to 106-56 win over Dyersburg State
MORRISTOWN, TN – No. 14 Walters State might have played its most complete game of the season on Saturday afternoon, and it resulted in a 106-56 win over Dyersburg State.
With the victory, the Senators improved to 23-1 on the season and 15-1 in TCCAA play.
11 players scored for Walters State in the game, with Da'Mori Lytch leading the way with 16 points while Carter Webb added 15. Other scorers for the Senators were Taquez Butler with 14 points, Jayden Nesbitt with 10 points, Tyrese Stovall with 10 points, Trae Rideau with nine points, Malaki Brooks with eight points, Brian Carter with eight points, Jaquavious Wallace with six points, Jamar Livingston with six points and Caiden Bauldwin with four points.
It was all Walters State from the jump, as Nesbitt dunked one home to make it 4-2 before Lytch stole a pass and windmilled dunked. Dyersburg scored after the dunk, but Stovall dunked one home, Carter made a free throw, Brooks and Webb hit back-to-back 3-pointers and Wallace scored to make it 17-4.
Stovall had another dunk, and Rideau hit a three to make it 22-7, and Butler made a triple that made it 25-9. Butler then hit another three and Lytch scored four straight that got the lead to 36-20, and Walters State went on a 9-0 run in the final six minutes of the half to get the lead to 48-25 at the break. During the run, Carter hit a free throw and made a layup, Wallace scored, Rideau scored and Webb laid a ball in.
In the second half, the Senators picked up where they left off. Livingston opened the half with a three, and Butler and Lytch scored after to up the advantage to 55-25. The lead hovered around 30 for the next couple of minutes before the Senators went on a 9-0 run that made it 73-35. Webb started the run with a bucket, and Carter followed with a made shot. The run ended as Webb hit a three and Stovall scored.
Dyersburg scored to break the run, but Walters State followed it up with another 9-0 run. Again, Webb started it with a jumper, and after a Stovall dunk, Brooks drilled a 3-pointer. Lytch ended the run this time, making a layup that got the lead to 82-37.
From there, the Senators continued their offensive onslaught. Dunks from Wallace and Rideau capped things off, as Walters State took the 50-point win.
