Lady Senators sweep Motlow State on Sophomore Day
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State celebrated Sophomore Day on Saturday afternoon against Motlow State, and the sophomores came up big in a 12-2 and 14-2 sweep of the Bucks.
With the wins, the Lady Senators improved to 27-18 overall and 17-7 in TCCAA play.
The sophomores honored in between games were Brooklyn Copley, Sarah Short, Emma Myatt, Makayla Ramsey, Olivia Neese, Jaelyn McDaniel, Imari Golden, Emma Keck and Kendal Mason.
GAME ONE: Walters State 12, Motlow State 2 (5 Innings)
In game one, Myatt was money in the circle and her offense gave her plenty of run support for the run-rule victory.
Myatt pitched a complete game, allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits while striking out five.
At the plate, Randi Delong went 3-3 with two RBIs while Golden had a triple and three RBIs. Ramsey drove in two runs, as well.
Motlow State got on the board first with a run, but Walters State picked up an RBI single by Delong and a two-RBI triple by Golden in the bottom of the first to give them a 3-1 lead. The Lady Senators extended their lead in the second with three more runs, as Neese doubled in a run, Delong singled home Neese and Golden singled in Delong to make it 6-1.
In the fourth, Walters State blew the game open with six more runs. Those runs came on a McDaniel RBI single, a Copley RBI double, a two-RBI double by Ramsey, a Mason RBI double and an error that scored Mason to make it 12-1.
Motlow got one run in the fifth, but that was all as Myatt closed them out.
GAME TWO: Walters State 14, Motlow State 4 (5 Innings)
In game two, the Lady Senators homered four times on their way to another win.
After dominating in the circle in game one, Myatt made her first plate appearance of the season and promptly sent the ball over the fence in left for a home run. Golden, Copley and McDaniel also homered in the game. Copley drove in four runs, while McDaniel and Myatt each drove in three runs. Short and Keck each had three hits, as well.
In the circle, Ramsey threw a complete game. Ramsey allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits and struck out one.
The Lady Senators got on the board first in game two with an RBI double by Copley that scored Neese in the bottom of the first. Motlow tied the game in the top of the second, but Walters State responded with eight runs in the bottom of the second. Myatt got things going with her two-run home run, and Keck followed up with an RBI double. Copley then doubled home Keck to make it 5-1, and it was 7-1 when McDaniel blasted a ball over the fence in left. The final two runs came on a solo bomb by Golden and a sacrifice fly by Myatt that scored Short to make it 9-1.
Walters State continued the scoring in the bottom of the third, as McDaniel scored Keck on a sacrifice fly and Short singled to score Copley. Motlow scored a run in the fourth, but three more runs crossed for the Lady Senators in the bottom half of the inning as Mason scored on a groundout and Copley hit a two-run homer that made it 14-2.
Motlow picked up two runs in the fifth, but that was all.

Walters State will play their final home games of the season on Wednesday, hosting Pellissippi State. The doubleheader is set for 1 pm ET.
