Lady Senators collect 11 hits in 7-4 win over Jackson State in TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament
CHATTANOOGA, TN – Third seeded Walters State picked up 11 hits in their TCCAA/Region 7 Tournament opening game on Monday afternoon against sixth seeded Jackson State, and the Lady Senators went on for a 7-4 win.
With the win, Walters State improved to 31-19 on the season.
Randi Delong led the way for Walters State in the game with three hits and four RBIs. Along with Delong, Kendal Mason had two hits and an RBI while Jaelyn McDaniel and Imari Golden drove in runs as well.
In the circle, Emma Myatt (11-5) got the start and picked up the win. In her six innings of work, Myatt allowed four runs on seven hits and struck out five. Lauren Ruehl replaced Myatt in the seventh and threw the final inning to close things out.
Jackson State started the game strong with three runs in the top of the first, but Walters State immediately answered back. Olivia Neese led off the bottom of the first with a single and moved to third on a double by Mason. That brought up Delong, and she scored them both with a double that made it a 3-2 game.
In the second, the Lady Senators took the lead for good. With Golden on third and Neese on second, Mason singled home a run to tie the game. Delong was next up and, for a second straight at-bat, doubled home Mason and Neese to give Walters State a 5-3 lead.
That was the lead until the fourth when McDaniel added a run with an RBI single that scored Emma Keck. Walters State's final run came in the fifth on an RBI single by Golden that made it 7-3. Jackson got one run in the seventh, but that was all.

Walters State will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon, taking on second seeded Volunteer State. First pitch is set for 3 pm ET.
