Lady Senators fall to Pellissippi State
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State won the first set against Pellissippi State on Tuesday evening but could not carry over the momentum, falling 3-1 (23-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-15).
With the loss, the Lady Senators fell to 7-9 overall and 2-2 in TCCAA play.
The Lady Senators got up 8-2 in the opening set of the match thanks to four kills from Veda Barton, two kills from Kara Coggins, a kill from Isabelle Brickey and an ace from Lilabeth Jordan. Pellissippi cut the lead and tied things at 10 and 11, but Walters State got back on track with an ace by Annah Cate Hyatt that upped the lead to 13-11.
Pellissippi would again tie the set, this time at 13, 14, 15, 16 and 19, but Walters State got some separation with a kill and block by Hyatt to make it 21-19. Pellissippi tied it one final time at 22, but Barton ended the set with two more kills and a block to give Walters State a 25-23 win.
In set two, Pellissippi got up 6-1 before Walters State got a kill and two blocks from Barton to cut the lead. Pellissippi regained some control at 10-6, but Barton had three straight aces. Thanks to Barton, the Lady Senators would keep it close in the set, but a late rally gave Pellissippi a 25-21 set win.
Walters State started set three strong with an ace from Hyatt, but Pellissippi soon took a 7-4 lead. Walters State tied things at seven, eight, nine, 10, 11, 12 and 13 thanks to three more kills from Barton, but Pellissippi scored six straight to take control and pick up a 25-16 set win.
In the final set, Walters State stayed close early but Pellissippi scored seven straight to pull away and won the match with a 25-15 set win.

Walters State will be back in action at home on Thursday against Chattanooga State. The match is set to begin at 6 pm ET.
