Lady Senators drop home contest to Chattanooga State
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State fell at home to Chattanooga State on Thursday, dropping a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-23) contest to the Lady Tigers.
With the loss, the Lady Senators fell to 7-10 on the season and 2-3 in TCCAA play.
Walters State got up 3-1 in the opening set after a kill and block by Veda Barton and ace by Lilabeth Jordan, and the lead was extended to 6-4 after back-to-back kills by Davanie Tarleton. Tarleton had another kill to make it 7-5, but Chattanooga State took the lead at 10-9.
Walters State tied the set at 11, but Chattanooga State rallied off six straight points. Isabelle Brickey stopped the run with a kill, and Barton had back-to-back kills that made it 18-14. However, Chattanooga State surged again and took the set at 25-17.
Set two saw Chattanooga State take an early lead. Brickey got Walters State on track with a kill that cut it to 9-6. However, the Lady Tigers built a nine-point lead and went up 17-8. Walters State tried to close the gap but could not, falling 25-17.
The third set was close throughout. The two teams were tied at four, five, seven and eight before Walters State rallied off two points. Chattanooga State tied it back up and then led 13-11, but Barton had back-to-back kills to even things up at 13. Walters State took a 16-14 lead after kills from Destani Bailey and Barton, and then led 20-17 thanks to back-to-back kills by Kara Coggins.
Unfortunately for Walters State, Chattanooga State surged ahead 23-20. Walters State made one final charge with back-to-back points on a kill by Chloe Redwine and a block by Tarleton, but Chattanooga closed the set and match out.

Walters State will be back in action next Tuesday on the road against Cleveland State. The match is set to start at 6 pm ET.
