Lady Senators pick up second straight sweep, defeat Dyersburg State
MORRISTOWN, TN – Walters State carried Friday's momentum into Saturday against Dyersburg State, and the Lady Senators easily grabbed a 3-0 (25-3, 25-16, 25-6) win.
With the victory, the Lady Senators improved to 9-11 overall and 4-4 in TCCAA play.
Walters State started things early, scoring the first 13 points of the opening set. Payton Brown had four aces during the run, while Isabelle Brickey had two kills and Veda Barton picked up a kill. The lead was 17-1 following a few more kills from Brickey and an ace from Lilabeth Jordan, and it was 24-2 following two kills from Davanie Tarleton. Dyersburg picked up one more point, but the Lady Senators closed things out at 25-3.
In set two, Walters State scored eight of the first 10 points thanks to two blocks from Barton, three kills by Brickey and a kill each from Kara Coggins and Tarleton. Dyersburg hung around and cut it to 15-9 later in the set, but Walters State scored four straight to go up 19-9. From there, the Lady Senators got two kills from Barton, an ace from Brown and a kill from Coggins and held off a late Dyersburg rally to pick up a 25-16 set win.
Set three was similar to the opening set as Walters State scored the first nine points. Brown had yet another ace during the run, and Barton added a kill and a block. The lead grew to 16-1 after two kills from Brickey and an ace from Jordan, and it was 21-3 following two kills from Tarleton and a kill apiece by Brickey and Madison Haynie.
Walters State was never challenged after that and closed the set and match out with a 25-6 win.
