No. 21 Walters State sweeps Roane State in TCCAA Opener
HARRIMAN, TN – No. 21 Walters State opened up TCCAA play on Tuesday night, sweeping Roane State 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-13).
With the win, the Lady Senators upped their win streak to five and improved to 6-3 on the season.
The Lady Senators got off to a great start to the opening set of the match, scoring the first four points on Annah Cate Hyatt's serve. Roane State got on the board with two points, but Davanie Tarleton bounced right back with a kill and block to make it 6-2.
That lead would continue for the remainder of the first set, and Walters Stat went up 12-5 on a kill by Hyatt. A block by Tarleton made it 14-7 and a kill by Preslee Quertermous upped the advantage to 16-8. Back-to-back points on a kill by Veda Barton and a block by Hyatt made it 20-11, and it was 24-12 following two kills by Isabelle Brickey. The Lady Senators allowed one more point in the set before closing it out at 25-13.
Set two started the same as the opening set, with Walters State scoring the first three points and nine of the first 10 points. During the 9-1 run, Tarleton had two kills and a block, Quertermous had a kill and Brickey had a kill.
Walters State would continue to control from there, leading 17-8 after an ace by Barton and a kill by Hyatt. The lead got to 23-14 following a kill from Kara Coggins, and Walters State closed the second set out at 25-18.
Set three again saw Walters State score the first three points. However, Roane State scored the next four to take their only lead of the match. The Lady Senators bounced back with the next five points, and then led 11-6 following a kill from Quertermous.
The lead grew to 16-9 after a kill from Coggins, and an ace from Barton made it 18-9. Hyatt then racked up a kill, while Tarleton had a kill and a block, and Walters State closed the set and match out with an easy 25-13 win.

Walters State will stay in conference play, traveling to take on Jackson State on Friday. The match is scheduled to begin at 6 pm ET.
