Lady Senators fall in three sets to Davidson-Davie on Sophomore Night
MORRISTOWN, TN - Walters State fell 3-0 (29-27, 25-12, 25-18) on Friday evening to Davidson-Davie to end the regular season.
With the loss, the Lady Senators finished the regular season at 12-16.
Friday night was also Sophomore Night, and five student-athletes were honored for Walters State. Those honored were Mykanna McMahon, Payton Brown, Annah Cate Hyatt, Ava Morgan and Veda Barton.
Davidson-Davie led early in the opening set of the match but, at 9-9, Walters State took the lead. The lead was 12-10 following a kill by Barton, and it was 15-11 after Kara Coggins had a kill and Brown served back-to-back aces. The Lady Senators would continue to hold the lead, but Davidson-Davie chipped away and eventually tied things at 18.
Walters State briefly took the lead back at 23-21 thanks to back-to-back kills from Barton, but the Storm scored three in a row to get set point. The Lady Senators got a kill from Barton to stave off set point, and then had set point of their own at 25-24. However, the Lady Senators couldn't convert there and then couldn't convert at 27-26. Davidson-Davie went on to score the final three points of the set to take it, 29-27.
Set two was close early on as Barton, Isabelle Brickey and Davanie Tarleton had kills. Unfortunately, at 8-8, Davidson-Davie scored 13 of the next 14 points to take control. The Storm would go on to win the set, 25-12.
In the final set, Davidson-Davie led 12-6 before Walters State got a block from Coggins, a kill from Coggins and an ace from Barton to inch closer. Davidson-Davie grew the lead back out to 17-13, but Walters State scored four straight to tie things up. During the run, Preslee Quertermous had a kill, Barton had a kill, Coggins had a kill and Tarleton served an ace.
Following the run, though, the Storm took back control and took the set and match.

Walters State starts postseason play on Thursday in the Region 7 Volleyball Tournament against Jackson State at 1 pm ET. The Lady Senators will host the tournament, Thursday-Saturday.
